There is nothing like the feel of pen to paper in the lettering world. But, then a game changer hit the market, the iPad Pro. It’s the latest buzz in the lettering gone digital world. I could not wait to get my hands on one as soon as I heard about it. I remember when I purchased my iPad Pro 9.7′ in and Apple Pencil at my local Target store. Which I purchased on sale at the time on Black Friday! On sale, heck yeah! And boy, did I not know it was going to change the way I do things. I use it almost everyday majority for my business but also personal as well. It’s so convenient in the lettering digital world. Yes, using Photoshop is still just as popular as it was back then. But, having your process done all in one without having to sketch out your work, scan your work from the printer to the computer, uploading your work, editing your work and finalizing your work to convert it into a vector image, you can still do all of that on with the iPad Pro. Save time and save trees!
What I love about the iPad Pro is not because it’s convenient, because of this little app called Procreate.
Procreate is very well-known not only in the lettering world, but also artist, illustrators, graphic designers, and more. You can only use Procreate App with iPad Pro. Using Procreate app you will also need the Apple Pencil which is also used for your brushes for lettering, drawing art or graphics.
Q: How do I get started with Procreate?
A: The app is available in Apple store for a small fee to purchase and download. Follow the instructions to download the app to your iPad Pro. It’s very helpful to read the Manual instructions for functions and operations are you can download my free function cheat sheet for reference here.
Q. Which iPad Pro size do you recommended using? What about gigabytes?
A: I purchased the iPad Pro 9.7″ with 128 gigabytes recommended by my lovely friend called, “Budget”. But you are more than welcome to purchase either size which the 2018 version 9’7″ has been upgraded to 10’7′. iPad Pro also comes in 12.9” size which is also a wonderful size if you are using your device for business or if you prefer a larger screen size. Eventually, I will one day go bigger, but I’ve been trying to persuade my “friend” and she suggests I should wait for now. LOL! The more the gigabytes the better. The BIGGER the better, right!
Q: What Procreate brushes do you use? Where do you purchase your procreate brushes?
A: I use a mixture of Procreate brushes in my brush library, some purchased and others designed by myself. My favorite brush I use all the time is LS Fude which I purchased from bylefty.script on Etsy. She is the Procreate brush QUEEN and her brushes never disappoint me.
Q: Can I use a off-brand stylus instead of the Apple Pencil?
Q: Why aren’t my strokes thick or thin when I use the Apple Pencil?
A: Using the Procreate app is pressure sensitive which means depending on the size of your procreate brush you or using or if you applying pressure or not while using the Apple Pencil. Try adjusting your brush size in the side bar or remembering as if you were using paper and brush pen, when and not to apply pressure. Up strokes = Thin strokes, Down strokes = Thick strokes. The same rule applies for brush lettering.
Q: Can I save files in Procreate and upload them to Adobe Photoshop?
A: Yes! You can save files in multiple formats in Procreate, psd, pdf, png, jpg, tiff, and pro (procreate).
Q: Do you have a iPad Lettering course available for beginners?
