Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it? I love the new Amazon Christmas commercial. Christmas music always gets me in the spirit this season. I know I’ve mentioned it before but Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. If I could decorate my home with Christmas year around I would, I love it that much! But here is a fun holiday craft project I have for you to try.
Learn how to make this easy DIY Embossed Coaster. Make one or two for yourself or a Christmas gift. You will just need a few supplies which I have listed below.
Blank Coaster, Home Depot (they are about $0.49 each or less)
EmbossIT Pen by Ranger
Heat Gun*, (the one I’m using is by Paper Source) *Caution: When using heat tool can get extremely hot, burn hand or items please handle with care*
I’ve already pre-made the lettering for “Believe in the” using the EmbossIt Ranger clear pen covered with Red embossing powder by Ranger. After you have hand lettered your phase on to the coaster you then apply the embossing powder. Once the embossing powder has been applied you remove the access and then use your heat gun to melt the powder.
For the word, “magic” in this process you can see in the image below where I’m using the EmbossIt Ranger pen to write the word. The word “magic” is clear in this process so but once you apply the gold tinsel, remove the access you will see it appear. That’s the magic about using embossing powder!
Please be careful when using heat gun* tool can cause tile to become extremely hot after heating embossing powder. I would recommend waiting between heating sessions at least 15-20 mins.
I apply just enough embossing powder, gold tinsel to cover my lettering – “magic”.
I simply remove the access by taping the tile slightly onto the paper. You can pour the remaining back into your embossing container. You can see how the word “magic” appears after the access is removed. Now the easy way I found removing the excess around the wording is blowing it off with my mouth. I know it sounds messy but it’s quite fun!
*Please be careful when using heat gun* tool can cause tile to become extremely hot after heating embossing powder.
After coaster has cooled. Clear away most of the excess around your wording you can now use your heat gun tool to melt the embossing powder. You will notice the color will slightly change and the powder will be can melting in a solid form. How magical is that?
You can also add felt behind the tile (coaster) so the tile will not scratch against other surfaces when using it. Michaels or Hobby Lobby also carry felt glue so you can place the felt behind the coaster.
Here is a short video on Darby Smart you can check out below of my process.
